Music is me, I am music too
** Welcome to my mind, the instrument to my heart.
Songs that I love and why **
Songs that I love and why **
Whenever I have been at a loss for words, Music: its melody, lyrics, and the artist's voice, has combined all elements to make the sounds and words that I could not produce. Sometimes we are so far from understanding ourselves but somehow, we can turn on the radio and find solace knowing someone or many others have felt what you're feeling and then everything makes sense.
I was born and raised in two of the highest crime filled cities in NJ - Newark and Elizabeth.
I went through hell to say the least growing up in the hood but my goodness, I held on to the best times and so much of this was encompassed by music. Music kept me going. I remember the sunny days, the cold days, the days when nothing made sense until I listened to the artist who made it out of the ghetto- some probably never lived in the ghetto but they had a way with words that made you believe that everything was going to be alright!
Here are some of the songs that remind me of those sunny days in Newark and the rainy days in Elizabeth!
My Puerto Rican side always gravitated towards freestyle, my Dominican side listened to the most depressing bachata as if someone had broken my heart
and the hood in me could not stay away from R&B and Hip Hop... I swore I was the coolest Latina on the block (still think so too SMH) My list may be scattered and missing some great stuff but that is me: a beautiful mess...
I'll be updating this page periodically... sometimes we forget songs
